The end of October has been quieter with half term having an effect on the business bookings. We have been promoting our Halloween Feast, menu on the web. The restaurant will be decorated and it usually proves a fun event.

The First half of october has been busy, on 15th we hosted an unusual event, the Rotary Club Minor Sports Event. Traditionally minor sports is pub games eg skittles, dominoes etc. However, Melton Rotary Club challenged Grantham to games of conkers and peas shooters!!

The games were devised by Tony Lord and Gavin from Melton Rotary and I think came as a bit of a surprise to Grantham who rose to the challenge.

Remembering long-forgotten skills!

The Melton Club won, so we look forward to hopefully hosting the next round, I dread to think what games will be thought up!

Whilst the food festival was on, we were lucky at the hotel to have a visit by the Sunbeam Talbot Darracq and Vintage Car Clubs. This saw a tour group of approx 40 people arrive on 2nd october for 2 nights. The group arrived in cars from 1909 to 1934. The car park looked fantastic, we managed to get lots of photos and some video. Gavin, James, Zoe and I had a ride in a 1912 Wolseley.

Zoe was in awe of the car that looked like ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. The group visited attractions in the area including Belton House and Woolsthorpe Manor.

The weekend of the 3rd and 4th October saw the East Midlands Food Festival return to Brooksby College at Melton. Whilst there were none of the TV celebrity chefs, the show proved successful.

The show was compered by Stephen Hallam (Ye Olde Pork Pie Shop), Rachel Green proved  a crowd puller as well as some of the local talented chefs. I attended to promote Melton on the Melton Town stand. Daughter Zoë was there too helping!!  She was dressed as a pumpkin for some of the time to promote the hotel Halloween function.
