Melton hosted the second National British Pie Awards on 19th May. We were one of the sponsors and provided accommodation for some of the judges including chefs Rosemary Schrager and Tamasin Day Lewis.

I was ‘honoured’ to be asked to be one of the judges for the 725 anticipated entrants. I was on the hot savoury pie which had 266 entrants, my judging partner was Simon Majumdar, a food writer who also writes for the Guardian. A great day was had, can’t face a pie for a while !

This coming week looks to be a busy week.

Today we have the annual Baguley family reunion. A Sunday lunch gathering of the family from across the country.

Room 3 our top four poster (the large Victorian mahogany bed) has just had its bathroom stripped out. Over the next 3 weeks a complete new traditional style bathroom will be put in. Hopefully I will show you some before and after photos.

This coming week the hotel is busy with golfers in and organisers of the European Senior Tour Golf  Tournament at Stapleford park. Let’s  hope they get some good weather.
